Bisibele Bhath with Onion and Bisibele Powder

Method

Step 1: First boil dhal with turmeric powder and salt in 3 cups of water, cook till it is half done (Don't drain the water).
Step 2: Wash the rice , add 3 cups of water and add half boiled dhal and water, cook together till done.
Step 3: Chop onions and slit green chillies finely.
Step 4: Heat oil, put mustard seeds, green chillies and red chillies, onions, garam masala powder, dry coconut (copra), bisibele bhath powder, cahewnuts in it, then add cooked rice dhal mixture, pour tamarind pulp and salt and curry leaves.
Step 5: Stir and simmer for 2 - 3 minutes.
Step 6: Mix - well and pour hot ghee in the rice and serve when slightly cool.

  • Rice 1 3 cups
  • Red gram dhal - 1 cup
  • Onions - 2
  • Dry coconut - 3 tbsp
  • Green chillies - 3
  • Red chillies - 4
  • Tamarind pulp - 4 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - A pinch
  • Bisibele bhath powder - 3 tbsp
  • Garam masala powder - A pinch
  • Cashewnuts - 10
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste Curry leaves - few
