Chow Chow Koottu

Ingredients

  • 1 Chow Chow (Medium)
  • 1 Onion
  • 1/2 Cup moong dal
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • 1 tbsp Coconut (grated)
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Few green curry leaves
  • 1/4 tsp Chilli powder
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt to taste

    Method

    Step 1: Peel the chow chow and cut into pieces.
    Step 2: Cut the onions and green chillies.
    Step 3: Mix moong dal and little amount of water.
    Step 4: Add turmeric powder.
    Step 5: Cook it in a pressure cooker for 5 minutes.
    Step 6: Mix onions, green chillies and chow chow pieces.
    Step 7: Pour 1/2 Cup water.
    Step 8: Boil the mixture till chow chow pieces turn soft.
    Step 9: Now add turmeric powder and salt.
    Step 10: Mix cooked moong dal and add chilli powder.
    Step 11: Boil it over medium flame till the mixture turns thick.
    Step 12: Keep it aside.
    Step 13: Heat the oil.
    Step 14: Add cumin seeds, green curry leaves and urad dal.
    Step 15: AlloW them to splutter.
    Step 16: Pour it on cooked chow chow mixture.
    Step 17: Stir it.
    Step 18: Adorn with grated coconut.
