Method

Step 1: In a pan roast green gram on medium heat till light brown.
Step 2: Cut onion and tomatoes finely.
Step 3: Dice all the vegetables, add enough water and cook in pressure cooker and drain and keep aside.
Step 4: Put gram water, turmeric powder, salt in cooker and cook in pressure cooker. Remove from heat and mash lightly.
Step 5: Heat oil or ghee in a pan season with mustard when crackling add cumin seeds and brokend red chillies . Fry lightly.
Step 6: Add chopped onions and fry till colour. Add tomatoes, coconut, cook until tomatoes pulpy and oil show separately, stirring occasionally.
Step 7: Mix boiled vegetables and cooked dhal and enough water to keep simmer on low flame for 5 - 8 minutes.
Step 8: Remove from fire, Serve hot, garnish with curry leaves.

Ingredients

  • Green gram dhal - 1 cup (split skinned)
  • Potatoes - 2
  • Red pumpkin - 200 gms
  • Brinjal - 3
  • Raw papaya - 100 gms
  • Ghee - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Coconut - 1 cup (grated)
  • Red Chillies - 4 (broken into pieces)
  • Onion - 1

  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
