Horse Gram Bendhi

Method

Step 1: Soak horse gram overnight and cook it in pressure cooker till soft.
Step 2: Remove from the cooker, add enough water and salt. Boil over a low flame for 2 minutes so that the salt goes in to the seeds.
Step 3: Dry roast red chillies and grind along with the grated coconut and tamarind into to a dine paste.
Step 4: Add the paste to the boiled horse gram and boil it again after adding water to bring it to the desired consistency.
Step 5: Finelly heat oil and roast crushed garlic in it till they are brown
Step 6: Pour the seasoning in to the dish. Mix well.
Step 7: This is an ideal side dish with rice or roties.
Step 8: This could be prepared by eliminating coconut paste.
Step 9: Use Rajma Beans instead of horse gram

Ingredients

  • Horse Gram - 1 cup
  • Fresh coconut - 1/2 (grated)
  • Red chillies - 4 to 5
  • Tamarind - 1 marble sized
  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Garlic - 7 or 8 flakes (crushed)
