Jack Fruit Seed Halwa
Jackfruit seeds have a flavour of their own. In this halwa, they blend with milk and spices to create a traditional delicacy, long forgotten in most homes.
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Step 2: Cook on a slow fire till soft. Make syrup from sugar in little water and pour the prepared paste and half the quantity of ghee.
Step 3: Mix both syrup, remaining ghee and the cooked paste in a very thick bottomed kadai and keep on stirring till it leaves the edges.
Step 4: Pour on a greased plate and decorate with powdered cardamom, cashews and raisins.
Jack fruit seeds (peeled, grated) - 1 katori
Milk - 2 katori
Ghee - 1 and 1/2 katoris
Sugar - 1 and 1/2 katoris
Raisins - a few
Cashews - a few
Cardamom - 1 tbsp
Method
Step 1: Peel and grate the seeds fine and soak in hot milk for 30 minutes. Grind the rinsed grated seed into a fine paste.Step 2: Cook on a slow fire till soft. Make syrup from sugar in little water and pour the prepared paste and half the quantity of ghee.
Step 3: Mix both syrup, remaining ghee and the cooked paste in a very thick bottomed kadai and keep on stirring till it leaves the edges.
