Ingredients

  • Channa Dhal - 1 cup
  • Salt - 1/2 TO 3/4 tsp
  • Green chillies - 2 or 3 (slit and cut into small pieces)
  • Curry leaves to garnish
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Udad dhal - 1 tsp
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Grated coconut - 4 tablespoons
  • Asafoetida - 1 pinch

    Method

    Step 1: Wash the channa dhal in water.
    Step 2: Pressure cook in the cooker. This is very important. The water kept for pressure cooking should be just so much that it dips the dhal. Keep only for 2 whistles.
    Step 3: Filter out excess water and let it remain in the strainer.
    Step 4: In a frying pan add oil and fry the mustard seeds, curry leaves , asafoetida, udad dhal , asafoetida and green chillies.
    Step 5: Add the strained dhal andd stir for a few minutes.
    Step 6: Add salt and stir again.
    Step 7: Finally add grated coconut .
    Step 8: Hot sundal is ready for a snack or for vethalai pakku
    Step 9: This is really a very healthy protein rich snack.
