Pulse Pulao

Method

Step 1: Wash the rice and soak in water for 20 minutes.
Step 2: Soak red gram in water for 20 minutes. Drain and keep aside.
Step 3: peel onions and chop into pieces, slit green chillies into lengthwise, chop tomatoes finely.
Step 4: Grind red chillies, cumin seeds into a fine powder.
Step 5: Heat oil and seasonings with mustard seeds, onions, green chillies, curry leaves, fry till the onions are soft.
Step 6: In a pressure cooker, and soaked rice and soaked red grams with 4 cups of water tomatoes, turmeric powder and pour the fried ingredients, salt.
Step 7: Cook till up to 3 whistles and allow it to cool naturally, stir and serve hot with curd raitha (Pachadi).

  • Rice - 2 cups
  • Red gram - 2 tbsp
  • Sambar onions - 1/2 cup (Madras onion)
  • Tomatoes - 2
  • Green chillies - 4
  • Red chillies - 2
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry leaves - 2 springs
